Yeah it sounds involved but it's always been the case that for example Liverpool and Everton don't play at home the same weekend--and that was when all matches happened on a Saturday and there were no computers so it was probably a pen and paper job. I suppose the number of different tournaments plus fitting in international fixtures does make it extra complicated now though. How about ditching the League Cup for starters?

I think the lower league clubs would miss the chance of an upset and they have more time to play the games (no European committments etc.)
Premier League clubs (besides the top 4) should take it more seriously really as they don't have much chance of winning anything else.
