Château de Roquefixade

Magnificent walk from this book meant a 2-3 hour walk from Roquefixade village that climaxed with excellent views on

the approach to the Chateau itself.

This approach made it look insurmountable initially as, though you are on a similar level, your hill drops away and the rock on which the Chateau sits rises steeply beyond, exposing the sides that are quite literally sheer drops.

Can climb (scarily in places) right up to the remains (without charge). But caution is advised as you can easily arrive at the sheer drops with no warning. Not quite sure how the Cathars sourced food and water whilst up there but you can see why they'd be able to defend themselves extremely well.

Beautiful day with stunning views.

Nature wise saw swallowtails

at the top of the Chateau and Black Redstarts during the initial walk, with the distinctive red tails as they flew off.

Wycombe finally win again

A 93rd minute goal gave Wycombe their first win in 7 games at Darlington last night.
Was beginning to think I'd never see the day again.

So back up to 2nd on goal difference.

Funny old game though because this season the top is like:
1. Brentford - 72 points
2. Wyc - 68
3 Exeter - 68
...
6. Gills 65

Last season, after same stage (40 games) the top was:
1. MK Dons - 85
2. Peterborough - 82
3. Hereford - 75
4. Darlington - 73
5. Stockport - 72
6. Rochdale - 68
7. Wyc - 67

Last season we never featured in the automatic spots (top 3) at all. This season we've been there for most of it but only have 1 point more. Even Brentford (top this season) would only be 5th at same stage last season. Either everyone's more rubbish this season or there are more top teams of a higher standard! Probably the former...

6 games left. 2 big ones over Easter weekend (Gills at home and Exeter away). But not expecting too much as we haven't had back to back wins since 2nd Dec.

G20 and Superdrug

Superdrug is the only shop down the whole of the Strand that has bordered up its windows so far today.
Have they got something to hide?

Brentford FC

A Saturday afternoon football game, unlike evening ones, means there is plenty of time to soak up the pre-match atmosphere. Wycombe playing at Brentford, in the sunshine, presented the perfect opportunity to do so what with Griffin Park famously having a pub at each corner of the ground. How brilliant to have a pub at each corner. It would probably never work at a Premier League ground because the crowds are too big.

It's something we miss at Adams Park, with Wycombe moving 3 miles from the town centre in 1990 to the end of an industrial estate. Nearest pub is nearly 1 mile away and there is only the one.
I think it would be a big shame if Brentford were to ever move from Griffin Park and lose that sense of character.

Back to Saturday, on the first corner, approaching down the Ealing Road from the A4, is The New Inn. Just time to peer through the window and see Steven Gerrard score the penalty to put Liverpool 2-1 up.

Continuing on the Ealing Road, the 2nd pub you get to is The Princess Royal. Plenty of choice here being a Fuller's pub.

Turning right down the Braemar Road, you come to The Griffin on the third corner, another Fuller's pub. And finally, on the other corner of the Brook Road away end, there is the The Royal Oak, a Courage pub.
Had time for 2 out of 4. Super stuff. And to top it off Wycome and Brentford played out a 3-3 goal fest.
